Albania is considered to be Europe's last secret, a tourist destination characterised by an unspoiled scenery of mountains, ancient villages, castles and a pristine 450 km coastline.
Our coastline is one of the best of the Northern Mediterranean, rivalling those of Italy, Croatia, and our nearest neighbour, Corfu.
Our National Development Tourism Strategy focuses on three types of tourism development: sun and beach tourism, special interest tourism, and urban tourism/business and conference tourism.
Special Interest tourism is the most attractive prospect as it can combine adventure holidays with eco-tourism, rural tourism, cultural tourism and cross-border tourism. Our many national parks and protected nature reservations indicate that there are also opportunities to develop agro-tourism in Albania.
Initially we anticipate that foreign investment in Albania’s tourism sector will likely come from developers of holiday villages and marinas, such as the Club Med Village in Saranda, but we are keen to spread the development focus more widely.
The government is in the process of introducing a new Law on Tourism that will define its plans for the development of the sector.
